Another typical Monday in the city. The snarl of traffic, the pushing and shoving of a hundred thousand people in a hurry to get nowhere.
God, I hate Mondays.
I was working on a case that was going nowhere, fast.
Tracking down a lead on a ring of Chinese **** smugglers.
I read in the Chronicle, section B, page 2, my client's been found floating face down in the harbor.
Damn fool.
Should have left the snooping to me.
Now I'm left high and dry, with nothing to show for a week's work but sore dogs and a folder full of expense receipts.
I was just about to take the rest of the afternoon off and go soak my head in some cheap tequila, when in walked Victoria Hunt.
