I guess I've always been fascinated with the military.
Something about being in a manly atmosphere.
Ever since I was a ***, I knew that someday I'd be in the service.
That thought never left me.
I guess that's why I'm here today.
Sergeant Swan, drill instructor.
And I don't regret being here at all.
I enjoy my job a lot.
Everybody should enjoy what they do.
It's rewarding.
It gives me a great deal of personal satisfaction
knowing I'm responsible for developing boys into fine young men.
We're better to live. I mean, here I am in San Diego with all the beautiful beaches and weather.
And besides that, it has the largest concentration of military personnel, both Marines and Navy, in the Western Hemisphere.
Oh sure, the military has its pros and cons, just like any other job.
For instance, the hours.
For some nights I'd rather be doing something else completely.
Like tonight, I have mid-watch. I won't be off to 0600.
But, that'll give me a chance to unwind from the day.
Like I said before, I always knew what I wanted to be from the time I was a ***.
I read a lot, went to the movies, anything to do with soldiers.
Historical, Romans, ancient warriors, John Wayne, Calvary.
But by far, my favorite stories are the soldiers of the desert.
