Testicular cancer is the most common cancer amongst young men.
2,000 of them are diagnosed with it every year in the UK.
Knowing what danger signs to look for could make
all the difference. Dr. Christian's on a mission to get men acquainted with their
testicles
and has come to Fowles Hill Fire Station in Coventry to find out if this group of
lifesavers
are armed with the right knowledge to potentially save themselves.
Tell me about your balls.
How many are there? Two.
Good start. How many of you actually check your balls?
Yeah, we do check but don't really know
what I'm doing. And what age does testicular cancer tend to strike?
Between 20 and 40. That's a pretty good guess.
Yeah, it is. So you guys fall right in the middle of that age range so it would be good to make sure
you know what you're doing when you're examining them.
What I'm going to teach you. Come with me.
Our firefighters are ready to bare all in the name of health awareness.
But first they're off for a quick shower to get warm and wet
as this loosens the balls making them better for examining.
All Dr. Christian needs
is a volunteer.
Right. Are you shy?
Yeah. Alright. What you need to do is move your hands away from me
and you're going to just first of all cut the testicles in your hands
